About the Artist

Artist Statement

I have always favored the color palettes of the Dutch Old Masters. The dark colors they used to create forms and shadows give their paintings a depth into which I am irresistibly drawn.

Although my subject matter is traditional,
I have attempted to present it in an original way. Primarily focusing on the sky in the moments just prior to a storm, when the cloud formations are at their peak, affords me the opportunity to explore somber
colors, contrast, and form simultaneously.

The universality of this subject, while dramatic, is also calm and very approachable. There is a meditative quality to the skies. The almost monochromatic tones lack frivolity; however, with subtle rays of light shining through transparent areas, I hope to inspire awe rather than gloom.
